Cr Patrick re-elected as Deputy President

Councillor Norbert Patrick (Northern Tanami Ward) was been re-elected as the Council's Deputy President for a third term.  Cr Patrick has been a Councillor since the Council's formation in 2009 and has served as both President and Deputy President previously.

This position is based in Alice Springs with an obligation to travel to remote locations when required.

Level 7 (Range $77,819 - $82,458. plus 9.5% superannuation).Operating under the direction of the Manager, Youth and Communities and in accordance with Council corporate plans, policies and relevant legislation. This position has a focus on operational and administrative support and coordination, building strong communication strategies, monitoring WH&S compliance and assisting in building the capacity of the Youth and Communities Program team.

Nturiya Road Opening

Central Desert Regional Council recently completed a major upgrade to floodways and damaged road sections along the main Nturiya Road with assistance from the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements Program.

Council's indigenous staff were closely involved with the contractors throughout the project and gathered to celebrate with the Nturiya community.

Our Condolences

It is with regret that we inform you that one of our former Councillors passed away early Saturday morning after an extended illness.

On behalf of the Councillors and all Council staff, we offer our condolences to his extended family. Our thoughts are with them all.

Mr Schaber from Atitjere was a Councillor for several years, representing his community with distinction.

Sorry business has commenced at Atitjere.

 

A memorial service for Mr Schaber will be held in at the Catholic Church in Alice Springs on Thursday, 28 April, at 10am.

Central Desert News March 2016

The March 2016 edition of the Central Desert News is out now. In this edition there is information about our new induction DVDs in Central Desert languages, partnerships with organisations such as Arid Edge Environmental Services and Boral Asphalt, capital works upgrades to aged care services across the region thanks to the Department of Health, and a focus on the Mediation and Justice Program.

Council supports local employment at Nyirripi

Central Desert Regional Council is well on track to finish refurbishments of all 43 Nyirripi community houses by the end of June, with 27 fully finished and 4 more at 80% completion. Council continues to meet its contractual targets each month, including 30% of total hours completed by Indigenous workers, as required by the NT Department of Housing Stronger Futures NT program.

It is with great pleasure that Central Desert announce that Sandra Peckham has been elected unopposed as Central Desert Regional Council's newest Councillor to represent the Akityarre Ward.

The Akityarre Ward covers the community of Atitjere and surrounding stations and outstations.The vacancy occurred due to the resignation of Cr Louis Schaber. Cr Schaber has left the Council due to health issues.
