Ward By-Elections

A by-election is an election held to fill a political office that has become vacant between regularly scheduled elections. Usually this occurs when the incumbent has resigned or becomes ineligible to continue in office.  In ward by-elections any person residing within the ward that is eligable to vote and who is not excluded under the Council's policies is eligible to nominate.

The Local Government Act allows the Council to co-opt Council members should a vacancy arise during the last 18 months of the term of the Council.
