Council has welcomed the recent announcement by the Chief Minister Michael Gunner that Engawala and Lajamanu will be among the first communities to benefit from the Northern Territory Government's "Room to Breathe" program.
These two communities will have additional living spaces built into existing homes.
"Our communities all experience significant overcrowding," President Dixon advised. "The room to breathe program will alleviate some of the issues in community and we welcome the Northern Territory Government's announcement as it demonstrates a commitment to remote housing. We continue be extremely concerned about the lack of basic infrastructure, including power and water, in our remote communities and look forward to working with the Northern Territory Government to resolve these basic issues."
The Central Desert Regional Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced consultants to design, develop and deliver a workshop to upskill frontline workers in managing community safety and wellbeing. Specifically, the workshop will be focussed on first responses to child abuse and neglect, family and domestic violence and elder abuse.
