This Saturday over a dozen community members from Laramba will compete in Alice Springs representing Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) in the Mparntwe Softball Shield as part of NAIDOC week. Competing against other council teams from across Northern Territory, the CDRC team will play in a round robin competition at Jim McConville Softball fields on Saturday from approximately 11am, with the finals commencing in the late afternoon.
This is a great preparation for the Softball NT championships in 2021, which are set to be held in Alice Springs. The NAIDOC week tournament will be full of friendly matches between all teams.
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) celebrated NAIDOC week in July, with celebrations happening in each community. Due to COVID-19 the official NAIDOC week celebrations were postponed until this week and the 2020 National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony that was to be held in Alice Springs has been cancelled. With 40+ degree days we are glad we celebrated in July, but that doesn’t mean we won’t celebrate this week too. CDRC won’t have any events on, but if you are in Alice Springs check out the poster below to see what’s on.
