Central Desert Regional Council has now officially completed the SFNT Nyirripi Housing Upgrade contract for the NT Department of Housing. A total of 43 houses were fully refurbished and handed back to the community over a ten month period. Residents are extremely happy with the results and with the process, and have really appreciated the opportunity to be engaged as paid employees and trainees throughout the life of the program.
Council and its sub-contractors Roustabout Construction, A1 Plumbing and Clarklec Electrical Services have consistently delivered high quality works in a timely manner, and engaged local community members as paid employees throughout.
Council delivered an average of 39% indigenous working hours for the full length of the contract, well above the 30% contract requirement, demonstrating Council's ongoing strong commitment to local employment, reflected in the fact that 70% of Council's own employees are Indigenous.
Council would also like to thank all other staff and stakeholders involved in the program and once again pass on a very big thank you to Nyirripi community members for their support and keen participation. Council has proven that a respectful relationship between residents and Council as the key onground support agency delivers quality outcomes for the community.
