At the end of September Power and Water installed new LED lighting in the Atitjere power station generator shed.
“The old fluros were getting a bit tired and did not suit current Work Health and Safety requirements. The transformation has been amazing. The generator shed is extremely well lit now making our generator servicing easier and safer. Along similar lines to the council office lighting upgrade the energy saving may be of benefit as well,” said Warren Kenney, Community Services Coordinator in Atitjere.
Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) is not just a Monday to Friday, nine to five organisation. Its Essential Services Officers (ESO) are responsible for 24 hours, 7 days a week emergency response to all power, water and sewerage emergencies.
“While you may have been having a quiet tea or coffee at home or watching the kids play their favourite sport this Saturday spare a thought for the ESOs as they may be out and about keeping our essential infrastructure going,” said Atitjere Community Services Coordinator (CSC) Warren Kenney.
On Saturday morning 19 September Engawala ESO Eddie Owen and Warren Kenney (as relief Atitjere ESO) responded to a water main leak in Engawala (main photo).
“This was a great bit of inter-community teamwork in an area where water security is very important,” said Warren Kenney. “Seriously though, we love it!” he added.
