The division two grand final between Yuelamu and Yuendumu will be this Sunday 27 September 11am at TIO Traeger Park with the division one grand final between Western Arrernte and Ltyentye Apurte to follow at 2:30pm.
Yuendumu also made it into the Under 18 grand final, and will face off with Papunya, kicking off proceedings on Sunday at 9am.
The Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) president, Adrian Dixon, will be on hand at the ceremony to present the winners’ trophies. And since at least one of the winners will be a CDRC team, you won’t want to miss it!
As the weather warms it pays to remember the importance of being alert when handling bins and other equipment around community.
“Today whilst undertaking some routine maintenance on a bore compound I uncovered a juvenile Mulga snake curled up under a rubbish bin,” said Warren Kenney, the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Atitjere Community Services Coordinator (CSC).
This highlights the need for correct Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when working outdoors.
“I had my work boots and long pants on and was quite happy to leave this youngster alone to go and find a new place to hide out. A beautiful creature indeed,” said Warren.
As reptiles become more active in the warmer weather they may become more dangerous. Stay alert, and remember, never try to catch or kill snakes, they are protected under law and 90% of all bites happen when people try to catch or kill them.
