Monday 6 July is a day off work for Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) staff due to the NAIDOC week celebrations. And even though the rest of Australia has postponed the celebrations until November CDRC have decided to go ahead with the celebrations on Tuesday 7 July. The weather is perfect for it this time of year and the Council has its COVID-19 plans in place.
The celebrations will happen on each community with a flag raising ceremony at the Council office. It starts at 10am in each community except Yuendumu where it starts at 12pm, due to the Local Authority meeting taking place that day.
Come along to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Engawala Field officers, Bruno Tilmouth and Eric Tilmouth (pictured), have been hard at work remarking the lines on the community’s speed bumps. Now drivers will be able to see the speed bumps better, and slow down for them. This will make the streets of Engawala safer and the bottoms of the local cars less sore.
