The project was funded by the NT Recycling Modernisation Fund and helps support the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Waste Management Strategy 2023-2027.

Each of the seven bays is dedicated to a separate recycling stream. These include tyres, bottles and cans, white goods, gas bottles and fire extinguishers, and batteries. With concrete floors and walls separating them, community residents can drop off recyclable material without contamination. This allows CDRC staff to collect the recycling easily to put in piles ready for value adding / recycling.

The CDRC waste management strategy can be viewed at Waste Management Strategy 2023-2027.
