One of Leslie’s most notable achievements was the significant increase in council revenue, which grew from $26 million in October 2021 to an impressive $44 million by August 2024. This substantial growth reflects his strategic vision and effective management, enabling the council to expand its services and investments in community infrastructure.
In addition to financial growth, Leslie played a pivotal role in strengthening the council’s workforce. Under his leadership, the number of employees increased from 159 in 2021 to 399 by 2024, demonstrating his commitment to job creation and capacity building within the Central Desert region.
A landmark moment during Leslie’s tenure as CEO was the inaugural All Staff Forum, where 200 staff members gathered from across the region for the first time in the history of the council. This event fostered a greater sense of unity and shared purpose among the workforce, reflecting Leslie’s dedication to building a cohesive and collaborative team.
Leslie’s time as CEO was also marked by several key initiatives that have significantly contributed to the well-being and development of our region. These include the upgrading of vital infrastructure such as roads and playgrounds, the reopening of the Yurrampi Childcare Centre in Yuendumu, and the enhancement of waste management services across multiple communities. His efforts in fostering collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people were a true reflection of the council’s mission of working together to achieve common goals.
“We are immensely grateful to Leslie for his contributions over the past five years,” said Adrian Dixon, President of Central Desert Regional Council. “His leadership has not only increased our financial standing and workforce but has also left an indelible mark on our council and our communities. We celebrate his achievements and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Leslie’s departure marks the end of a chapter for Central Desert Regional Council, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide the council in its mission to serve the Central Desert region. We thank Leslie for his service and wish him success in his future endeavours.
