Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) is contracted by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development (NTG) to deliver the ‘Living Strong Program’ within the Council’s area. The brainchild of CDRC Commercial Services staff, the expo is an important part of the Living Strong Program.

Just like a seed needs care to grow into a strong tree, the Living Strong program has been carefully nurtured to reach its current stage. This program is all about empowering remote public housing tenants by improving their daily living skills.

Living Strong is a program designed to empower remote public housing tenants by improving their daily living skills. It's all about building a stronger, healthier community, one step at a time.

The program offers a range of practical skills and knowledge, including:

  • Healthy Living: Learning about healthy eating, cooking delicious meals, and smart shopping habits.
  • Household Management: Tips on keeping your home clean, tidy, and hygienic.
  • Financial Skills: Budgeting wisely and managing your money effectively.
  • Tenant Rights and Responsibilities: Understanding your rights as a tenant and how to maintain your home.
  • Environmental Awareness: Caring for our planet and practicing sustainable living.

By equipping residents with these essential skills, Living Strong aims to create healthier, happier, and more sustainable communities.

Service providers in attendance at the expo included PowerWater, Services Australia, Primary Health Care, Environmental Health, Aboriginal Housing NT, Outback Stores, Menzies School of Health Research, CDC Trachoma and Indigenous Eye Health (Milpa), NT Health- Remote Sexual Health, NT Health-Men’s Health, Indigenous Eye Unit, Ingkerreke Services Aboriginal Corporation, Yuendumu Local Health Advisory Group (Clinic NT Health) and Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development.
