In accordance with Section 201 of the Local Government Act, Central Desert Regional Council has fixed the following Elected Member allowances for 2024/25, based on the Determination of Allowances for Members (Determination No. 1 of 2024):

* The professional development allowance includes costs for travel, accommodation, meals and course or conference fees.
** The activity allowance may be paid as travel time when travelling to council meetings and meetings of Local Authorities within the ward the councillor represents, where the travel involves at least 50km from home base (at least 100km return). This activity allowance is not to be included in the cap of $10,000.00.

Under section 115(1) of the Local Government Act, any member who becomes aware of a conflict of interest at any Council, local authority or committee meeting must declare a relevant interest.

Local Authorities (LA) need to be representative of key groups within their area by including people who are committed to attend and participate in meetings for the benefit of residents and community members.

Nominations for each community are announced publicly when they become available. Nominations are open for 28 days and are followed by a community election, if required. Please see the Council Service Manager for more information.
The following local authorities meet within the Central Desert Region. It is recommended that you contact the local community office to confirm that the meetings will occur as meetings may be postponed due to cultural business or weather conditions.
Under section 7E of the Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act 2006, the Northern Territory of Australia Remuneration Tribunal determines the following allowances for Local Authorities:
