Lajamanu Community Plan

Lajamanu Community Plan 24/25

VISION: Lajamanu is a thriving community where there are good jobs

COMMUNITY: Lajamanu is 1300km north-west from Alice Springs (via the Stuart Highway) and 560km south-west of Katherine. It is situated on the edge of the Tanami Desert.

Community Priorities Actions

Infrastructure

Streetlights

Complete a playgrounds and oval/sporting facility audit, identify infrastructure gaps and develop a plan to upgrade to minimum standards
Partner with CAYLUS or other organisations to upgrade facilities
Implement service levels for playgrounds and other facilities
Council undertake a dark spot audit and implement program.
Consult with residents to determine locations of additional lights and implement
Residential Aged Care additional dialysis Investigate funding options to develop residential aged care centre
Advocate to Katherine West Health Board or other providers on behalf of residents for additional dialysis services
Bridges,waste, amenities Advocate on behalf of residents with road owner to upgrade Tanami Highway bridges
Implement vehicle crushing program with Sims Metal in first quarter of the 2022/2023 financial year
Public toilets are required near airstrips, holy ground, sorry camp and shop
Men’s shelter and outstations resources Advocate relevant NT government agency for men’s shelter
Consult with residents to develop plan and advocate for inclusion of outstations resources centre under Local Decision Making program
Activities, school attendance, youth rehabilitation Advocate for more activities on behalf of residents with YSR service provider
Advocate on behalf of residents to Territory Families, Housing and Communities (THFC) and NT Corrections for a community-led youth rehabilitation program
Men’s centre renovation and power Put renovation to Lajamanu LA to fund as LA project.
CDP to add fencing Men’s Centre as an activity.
Sport and Recreation Basketball court
Football oval - new grass and chairs
Gymnasium required for men
Women side sorry camp Toilet and showers, tap
