Willowra Community Plan 24/25

VISION: Overall we would like more people, with more houses and more jobs

COMMUNITY: Willowra is located on the edge of the Tanami Desert, 300 km north of Alice Springs. Warlpiri is the main language, but residents may speak four or five languages.

Community Priorities Actions
Economic development - farming Undertake community consultations to develop farming projects
Complete the Pmara Jutunta project with Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC) and explore replication of project in Willowra
Roads improvement Back way to Yuendumu - Stuart highway - Mt Bartley
Proper road rest stop - mainly through back roads: Develop a road safety plan that covers Council’s road network
More waste services Construct recycling bays at the landfill and inform residents of recycling initiatives
Develop and partner with residents,stake holder and CDP to participate in Tidy Towns
Playgrounds, sport and rec facilities Complete a playgrounds and oval/sporting facility audit, identify infrastructure gaps and develop a plan to upgrade to minimum standards
Implement service levels for playgrounds and other facilities
BMX tracks: Council to work with community residents. Seek funding from GMAAAC or add as an LA Action Item as a possible LA Project.
Gym: More discussion needed with LA to determine location.
Sport weekends: YSR to facilitate sports weekends with collaboration with community residents.
Infrastructure More public toilets: Infrastructure team to seek funding.
Public laundry at the old building: Council Services to look into getting an Orange Sky laundry truck for Willowra.
Water tank at bush camp oval: Further discussion is needed with LA.
Cemetery fencing: Infrastructure to seek funding and/or added as a CDP program.
Shade structure – middle next to back of learning centre: To be added as an LA Action Item as a possible LA Project, and Council will continue to seek additional funding.
Stage next to lot 124 – for Church and storage room: Seek additional funding or put to LA to add as an LA project.
Projects Community workshop for cars etc.: CDP to add as a CDP Project/Initiative.
Trees, fruit trees & flowers (Market gardening): To be added as an LA Action Item as a possible LA Project, and with Tenancy Management as part of the Living Strong Program.
Water park Infrastructure to conduct a feasibility study and apply for funding. Work with GMAAAC or engage Ekistica.
